What happened with Hitchens

News of an altercation between Christopher Hitchens and Syrian thugs in Lebanon has the blogosphere buzzing. Ace clarifies the story as rumours have misrepresented events. RTWT for details.

One quibble: Christopher Hitchens is the real left. "Lefty" blogs are usually published by neo-Nazis, Nazi apologists and cowards. These are Hitchens' enemies. They hate him for telling the truth about what they have become.

I wasn't there. I was there, however, for the immediate after-action report, and have heard it told ten times by now, including most of it from Hitchens. Although I didn't really bother asking much, as I'd already heard it.

Hitch and two others were out on some or such errand. One guy was just telling Hitchens that the Syrian Nazi party had little support in the country but was paid by Syria to kill people, and that he'd been told they're the one party you don't fuck with.

So five minutes later they come across the poster for the Syrian Nazi Party on an abandoned bagel shop -- abandoned, if I had this right, after Hezballah had attacked it last year due to the overly Jewish connotations of bagelry.

So Hitchens immediately takes out a pen and writes "No, no, Fuck You" on the poster. I don't know if he'd digested the story and decided to fuck with them anyway, or else he was just reacting to the modified swastika on the poster.

Blast from the not so distant past: Having failed to find my own post on the subject, I draw your attention to Transmontanus on the Syrian Nazi party, George Galloway and the Canadian "left".

One thing there wasn't room for was an especially vivid illustration of the convergence of the far left and the far right that's going on here: "Anti-war" hero George Galloway visited Ottawa last year for the specific purpose of attending a Canadian celebration of the 74th birthday of Syria’s fascist movement. The Syrian Social Nationalist Party sports its own stylized swastika, sings its anthem to the tune of Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles, and dreams of a greater Syria from the Nile to the Euphrates.

Try hard: Elsewhere on the frontlines of civilization (but still at AoSHQ), students think greater effort should be rewarded with better grades.

With all due respect to Mr. Greenwood, there is something more than effort - results. Effort is certainly admirable, but the purpose of education is to achieve understanding of the material. If a student cannot pass tests or submit papers, they should not be expected to earn high grades.

The entitlement mentality here is frightening. What will a workforce or voting population full of people with such a mindset look like?

Oh, that's right...we elected...
