When the Easterlings come for this woman's head and her daughter's hand in "marriage" she will no doubt be reminded of Tolkien's racism and how - but for our culture's prejudice - when might all have got along.

That is the stupidest thing I've read this month; and I've been reading US income taxes for three weeks.
I'd like to live to see Barzun's next book: "From Dawn to Decadence to Totally Fucking Stoopid" -- in Arabic, of course.

If I remember correctly, weren't the Pukel men of Ghan-buri-Ghan dark skinned? Peter Jackson didn't show them in the movie though.
If this woman wants to complain about the Peter Jackson movies she should complain about Jackson cutting the most important moral lesson and the ultimate message of the movie, the Scouring of the Shire.
