? Why Hussein does not read | Main | Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach ?

Somewhere in the Western Sector

Pakistan's Foreign Minister refuses to hand over Lashkar-e-Toiba jihadis to India, property values in Hayatabad plummet as Peshawar looks set to fall to the Taliban, and the Indian Air Force - quite sensibly in my opinion - has been put on a high state of readiness.

So what went wrong? Irfan Husain offers the explanation one might expect from a man whose last name is Husain. Which is completely different from what someone whose middle name is Hussein might have to say.

In the wake of 9/11, many moderate Pakistanis had hoped that in the process of ridding Afghanistan of the Taliban, the Americans would also help Pakistan roll back the forces of extremism that were threatening to tear the country apart. Over seven years later, the Taliban are resurgent, and their Pakistani clones have tightened their grip on the country’s jugular.

So what went wrong? First, Iraq diverted the West’s military might and focus.

Correction, Husain and Hussein have exactly the same analysis of the problem. My bad.
