Unstoppable

From what we have seen thus far of the Obama cabinet there is a good deal more room for optimism on the right than on the left. But then I was expecting the Apocalypse and enjoy the good fortune that comes from the lowest of expectations. The best news yet arrives as my girl Hillary is to haunt the Obama administration and, better yet, Christopher Hitchens' endorsement.

Sarah Palin looking pretty good right now, Hitch?

Satisfying: A purge of Barack Obama's top foreign policy team has begun.

The advisers who helped trash the former First Lady's foreign policy credentials on the campaign trail are being brutally shunted aside, as the price of her accepting the job of being the public face of America to the world.

Along the same lines: Victor David Hanson and the sudden cessation of Hope and Change.

... if we should see in January that the government really does not want to evict Khalid Sheik Mohammed & co. from Guantanamo, and does want to stay in Iraq until 2011 to finish up, and does want to let the present tax code ride for a bit, and does want to leave most Bush-enacted homeland security measures in place, then Obama has not merely embarrassed his hard-left base, but has terribly humiliated the media as well.

Let's say we all got it wrong: We could be looking at a normal, venal, power hungry Chicago machine pol. If we all misjudged the man the worst surprise may be for Obama's Cuban handlers; this could be the President with sufficient international capital to sort out what remains of the Castro regime once and for all.

To All The Obama Haters…: You are wasting the opportunity of a lifetime.

I’ll agree from the start, Obama won’t deliver the change we want. He’s an establishment candidate who’s risen up within the ranks of the machine. It’s not enough that he’s better than the alternative- the hope he’s sold millions will sooner or later be dashed.

Dysnomia sees this as an opportunity to use the people mobilized by Hope/Change despite their soon to be fallen idol. I see a different opportunity. Let us use some Bruce Lee mojo on the left: When Obama fails them let us maximize on this failure, let us crush their optimism - their dreams - such that they never take part in electoral politics for the remainder of their embittered lives.

Or until they grow up and become conservatives.

But they will be happy once Obama rolls back Bush's faith-based initiatives... oh wait. 8-)

I have a slightly different perspective.

The aggregate self-esteem inside the Beltway almost certainly equals, if not exceeds, that of the rest of the world combined, and certainly does if Brussels is removed from the rest-of-the-world total.

To imagine that a man who has never managed a lemonade stand could herd those cats is risible. The events of the last couple of weeks underscore that.

We are about to observe a Ship of State proceeding through stormy seas with all of the cannon loose and not a tiedown rope or padeye in sight. Jeering is an entirely justifiable pastime, and we can expect many opportunities.

Regards,
Ric
