One man's terrorist is another man's rhetorical device

Dust My Broom considers the worst ally in the world. I want to thank Darcey for his blunt assessment of Marc Lemire, former head of Canada's white supremacist Heritage Front and test case not only for freedom of speech but for freedom of stupid.

To be clear on several points.

First: I neither know nor particularly care to know the details of Marc Lemire's politics. What I do know is that having been personally threatened - and had close friends hospitalized - by Heritage Party thugs at the time of Lemire's early association with the movement, I would need to see some honest expression of contrition on his part before considering his views about anything.*

Second: I hope most conservatives and libertarians advocating the end of Canada's human rights thought control legislation will agree the point: The Heritage Front were sons of bitches. They were not our sons of bitches.

Third: If you decide to fight side by side with white supremacists, you are (more or less) free to do so. But if you so choose, you have nothing whatsoever to say to Barack Obama on the subject of Bill Ayers. You have lost that argument.

Finally: Follow the link to Dust My Broom. Marc Lemire has no right to stand in front of that flag; it is a desecration.

This is the Red Ensign at Normandy. The men fighting under that flag risked and sacrificed everything so they could kill Nazis. They did a great job but they missed some.

* An apology from Canada's security services is also in order. As usual, in movement politics the guy pushing for violence is the undercover cop.
