Slouching towards Bethlehem

Barack Obama struggled to remember the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek as he attempted to one up John McCain's reference to a bracelet bearing the name of Col. Matthew Stanley. Obama had to look down to remind himself as he fumbled for a debating point.

Something else Senator Obama forgot: Jopek's family asked Obama to stop wearing the bracelet. Months ago.

Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

Update: Now Sergeant Jopek's mother says she was ecstatic Senator Obama mentioned her son.

"I don't understand how people can take that and turn it into some garbage on the Internet," she said.

That would be because she asked Senator Obama not to mention her son in speeches or debates. In February.
