Sometimes a shotgun is just a shotgun

Jacques-Alain Miller does his best to embarrass those of us interested in Lacanian psychoanalysis by offering a few words on Sarah Palin.

What is the precise difference between the women of these two generations? The first ones imitated man, respected the phallus, and performed as if they had one. The second wave knows that the phallus is only a semblance and, furthermore, one not to be taken seriously: it is the de-complexified femininity. A Sarah Palin puts forward no lack: she fears nothing, churns out children all while holding a shotgun, and presents herself as an unstoppable force, "a pitbull with lipstick".

In the real world, we call this sort of analysis "cream of nothing". It is a favourite of the Left.

This via The Pinocchio Theory who thinks Palin's image is that of a "corporate warrior"; this despite her having been a small business owner and an anti-big oil crusader. But given the progressive choice for VP cannot tell the difference between a brigade and a battalion and yet is considered an expert on military affairs, we are not dealing with the brightest collection of bulbs in the box. These are, after all, the same people who sneered at a Yale graduate these last eight years because he has a Texan accent.* The notion Sarah Palin may have worked hard and earned her every accomplishment is quite literally incomprehensible to them, let alone the idea a successful, independent women might be a source of inspiration rather than a cause for envy.

* Whereas I am happy to mock Yale graduates, regardless of their regional origins.
