A strong friend of Israel. Bears, not so much.

Palin1Bear0.jpg

Governor Sarah Palin is a strong conservative woman and a strong supporter of Israel and yet somehow some have the temerity to raise questions questioning her commitments.

Detecting a pattern here.

Who knew, right? Still, nice catch by the RJC, who just sent this out over email. Hey - what's that over Governor Palin's shoulder?

Not the bear but a pleasant surprise over her shoulder in the video linked through the words "supporter of Israel" above. Not to leave Flea-readers hanging; the bear skin rug fantasy is explained here.

Related: Jerry Pournelle on Robert Heinlein's opinion of Sarah Palin (via Instapundit).

Mr. Heinlein once speculated that we ought to reserve high political office for women with children because they tend to see things a bit more realistically. While I didn't necessarily agree with him, I never won the argument with him. On the other hand, Robert used to take positions for the sheer fun of it. (Actually I think he'd have preferred that anyone elected be a woman with children who could solve quadratic equations in her head, but he never went quite that far in public statements. Ginny never had children, but she could certainly do the math....)

Baberaham Lincoln Update: A note to Peter Robinson at the Corner argues we should prioritize mastery over experience.

Lincoln is a good example. He spent a fair number of years as a suffling lawyer but he mastered the one great civic-political issue of his day (aside form the moral issue of slavery) - the power and develpment of rail transport in American life. He knew everything there was to know about railroads and land and financing and legal ins and outs concerning the power of rail in the 1850s.

Remember that when you hear Ms. Palin going on about energy. She has mastered the land, legal, technical concepts relating to the oil industry; even more she knows the power politics of big oil as it relates to the biggest state in the union and all the other states as well. Just for fun of it some reporter should ask her: "can you describe what the oil companies are doing to protect their rigs from Hurricane Gustav?" Watch jaws drop as she describes to a "T" what you need to do to protect off-shore rigs from harsh weather.

Update: "Bristol Palin's decision may be one of the most fearless, selfless acts any seventeen year old young woman has ever made." And, of course, her decision to keep her baby. RTWT.

Palin IS Eowyn

I like the parallel between Palin and Lincoln, and the notion of mastery of actionable information. We tend to call these people engineers.

Sarah Palin works for me on so many levels. My father also gave me a bear rug. Many pleasant memories of doing homework with my head propped up on the bear's head. And so on.

However, I'd like to see you address the 800 pound gorilla in the room--Palin is an alpha female in a contest with 3 delta males. Your cup of social dynamics runneth over.

I'm watching speaker after speaker struggle to contain their enthusiasm about her, and try to keep it from overrunning their support of McCain. As Ann Coulter put it, getting Palin to within a heartbeat of the Presidency is the best reason for voting for McCain.
