Yes, but that's the problem

In light of recent retreats by Canada's "human rights" commissions, Instapundit has a suggestion.

... now is not the time to slack off. I also think it would be a good time for Canadians to flood the HRCs with complaints about racist and sexist speech from Muslim clerics, Womyn's activists, and the like. God knows there's plenty of material to work with.

An excellent idea in principle. But what the good professor has yet to grasp - on a visceral level, if not on the intellectual - is that Canada's HRCs pick and choose what they want to hear and do so within legislative and regulatory guidelines that preclude hearing complaints against Muslim clerics, Womyn's activists and the like. These are not kangaroo courts but kangaroo tribunals and kangaroo commissions; even a kangaroo court makes a pretense to observing the form of the law, the HRCs make theirs up as they go along. As of June 26, Jay Currie had already been waiting for two months for so much as an acknowledgment from the Canadian Human Rights commission regarding his complaints.

... Day 65 passes without a single word from the CHRC in response to my complaints about Le Devoir, the CBC and Reynant. I’ve been busy but, for Canada Day, I shall be sending the Registered Mail versions to the CHRC and Ian Fine who tells us that any Canadian may complain. Federal Court does not sit in the summer…perhaps the CHRC can avoid the visit by answering my mail.

I suspect Jay will have to wait until the press notices and - by a stunning coincidence - the CHRC gets its two-sided fax machine working.
