Do the math
Most people do not have a deranged preacher for a spiritual mentor.
Almost everybody has a grandma they love.* And, quite possibly, a cranky dad or granddad like John McCain they love just as much. You can disagree with McCain, find him infuriating, but he is telling you what he believes to be the truth. Obama does not even rise to the level of a used car salesman version of the truth; at least a used car salesmen is selling something. If I am right to trust the good sense of my American cousins, this election is going to be a blow out.
* There is a funny here on the difference between your grandmother sitting in the back of the bus vs throwing your grandmother under the bus. It will come to me later.

I'm rather surprised no one has done a 'return of the repressed' type article re Obama and White reactions. His early years were suffused with 'abandonment issues' according to some school chums, he seems to have repressed his white 'half' rather consciously [see 'Dreams of my Father' or whatever the title of that book was], and he consciously sought out a black church, wife, etc.
And now, linguistically and structurally, every utterance regarding whites seems to betray an appalling ignorance or intellectualized dismissal. From a neo-Freudian view, can we regard the Big Speech as anything other than intellectualization and rationalization? Defense mechanisms are surely in play to ward off the return of the repressed.
