At all costs

A flock of pigs is sighted crossing over the Hollywood sign at speed* as celebrities denounce terror against Israel (via the Drink Soaked Trots).

"We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated by terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas. If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die. We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."

"At all costs" is both intemperate and entirely correct.

* In related news: al-Gor reportedly on speaking junket in Hell; temperatures plummet.

Update: The alternative to the exercise on a monopoly of force by the State is some combination of gangsterism, warlordism, rule by the mob or anarchy. The law still rules in Israel but an incident in Ashkelon suggests at least some of the people believe it has failed. In its absence, tit-for-tat (via The Last Amazon).

Ashkelon resident Moshe Nissimpor decided that the best way to halt rocket fire from Gaza - in light of what he terms the government's failure to do so - is some vigilante justice.

"From this day onwards, we will push back to the stone age every place which dares shoot missiles into Israel's sovereign territory," he said Wednesday. "It is time the world understood Israelis' lives are not expendable."

The fact Nissimpor decided to launch his missile from the front steps of the Ashkelon Municipality building, give a speech and allow himself to be placed under arrest suggests agitprop rather than anarchy was his intent. It is a matter of time.

Update: Wretchard writes:

Much earlier I wrote that the logical flaw in assuming Islamic radicals, developing WMD in a cave, could privately attack the Western civilians with impunity was the assumption that Western civilians couldn't do the same. "The really harmful consequence of not recognizing proxy warfare and addressing it openly is that it creates a subterranean world of countermeasures. A black market in defense."

"We are all Hizbullah now". Not yet, but soon.
