Independence

Some Big Bad Gun pr0n for our neighbo(u)rs to the south. Happy birthday, America.

PS - Despite what liberals believe about intentions and goodwill of conservatives, the fact is that if conservatives changed their minds about liberty, equality and representative government there is not a damn thing liberals could do about it.

Update: An Independence Day message from Jack English American.

Update: Entirely a propos... nominations are open for the Most Mediocre Canadian. Kathy Shaidle offers the rationale for her vote.

I don't think I can vote in these Canadian polls.
I don't speak French.

Plus it is difficult to narrow the field when it comes to Canadian mediocrity.

It is a very broad field. It would include anyone that has ever worked for any Canadian broadcast media company. Or anyone who failed to throw an actual brick at their TV while watching same. Anyone who has ever enjoyed an Atom Egoyan, David Cronenberg or Norman Jewison film; an Alison Munro, Margaret Atwood, Farley Mowat, Mordecai Richler, Barbara Gowdy, Yann Martel, W.O. Mitchell or W.P. Kinsella book; poems by Stephen Leacock, Leonard Cohen, bpNichol or jwcurry; songs by Anne Murray, Gordon Lightfoot, Shania Twain, the Guess Who, the Tragically Hip, Great Big Sea, Neil Young, Sarah McLachlan, Paul Anka; voted for politicians like David Miller, Art Eggleton, Bill Davis, Bill Graham, Bill Vander Zalm, Glen Clark, David Peterson, Robert Stanfield, Joe Clark, Stephen Harper, Stephane Dion, Gilles Duceppe, Jack Layton, Elizabeth May, Robert Bourassa, Jean Charest, John Turner, Kim Campbell, Ed Broadbent, Hedy Fry, Roy Romanow, Lorne Calvert, etc etc. The list is literally endless.

We are all complicit in our national mediocracy.

Would y'all like to join America? We're taking applications.
No Quebecers, though.
We have to draw the line somewhere.
