Concert against jihad

Madonna, U2, Green Day and over 100 other music artists will join together to defend artistic freedom, the rights of women and the equality of gay people in the face of a lavishly-financed, global wave of religious violence.* Partnering with NGOs, international organizations including the UN and corporations of global reach, these artists will unequivocally condemn jihadi violence and celebrate representative democracy. The Middle East's only multicultural, egalitarian and pluralist state, Israel, will be singled out for praise and as an example of Arabs participating in the democratic process.**
The date is particularly apt: Two years to the day following fascist, medievalist attacks on London, home of "The Mother of Parliaments".
Liberty Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Liberty & Democracy, The Freedom of Expression Group and other international organizations to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action to address religious extremism and violence. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is the Chair of the Alliance and Partner of Liberty Earth.
Ha ha. Just kidding. Islam means peace. They are actually going to protest the weather. And yesterday they were remembering Diana. That's Diana with a D. Mighty hearts.***
* With the exception of Madonna, a made up list of artists though for all I know they are on board too. If you can stomach US spelled "U$", Madonna lecturing us simple folk for being materialistic and selfish or al-Gore's face, here is Madonna's Official Live Earth video for Hey You; made with 100% recycled self-righteousness.
Also on board: Howard Dean took the pledge. And my favourite artists working to prevent the planet from spontaneously combusting? Spinal Tap.
** A very short list that might one day include Iraq. But only if the United States hangs tough.
*** No offense meant to Prince Harry. Well said, sir.

Madonna sees that her youth has faded and figures death is on the horizon, so she's trying to make her legacy in the form of her namesake.
Bono. Don't even get me started on Mister Red.

I used to like Bono. He's become a big, fat disappointment.

Wow artists standing up for something other than just bashing capitalism or the West.
