Isn't it more fun to make the man obey?

I can appreciate Charisma Carpenter wanting to be the next Wonder Woman. A bodacious brunette with a fanboy following, she seems a natural especially considering her long working relationship with Joss Whedon. But as sympathetic as Carpenter's Buffy and Veronica Mars performances have made her it is important to remember that Wonder Woman is not just any comic book moll.

"Beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Mercury and stronger than Hercules," Princess Diana is the Amazon ambassador to "Man's World" sent to fight the Nazis. She is the only DC character who might have a harder edge than Batman or last a round with Superman. This is a cartoon character who represented women's strength, even a feminist appeal, to adolescent boys from the 1940s on down to today (the lasso helped). Charisma Carpenter has an obvious appeal but this is not the woman for the job. Not when Joss Whedon has Eliza Dushku to kick ass and take names.

She is pretty much my number one Wonder Woman pic (unless we can get Sarah Silverman).
