Project Oklahoma

NicoleKidmanBaghdad.jpg

For all the undeniable difficulties and doubts, Nicole Kidman staring out from a Baghdad billboard is surely an improvement, however surreal, on Saddam (via The Jawa Report). More breaking Kidman media: Baz Luhrmann has an historical epic in the works as romantic as Gone With The Wind and on the scale of Lawrence of Arabia. Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe are reported to star. Give me Daleks or flying monkeys and this film will have everything.

Well Baz himself has finally spoken out about his plans for the as-yet-untitled project to the Aussie press this week and revealed all sorts of new facts says Baz the Great. Despite the amusing working title of "Project Oklahoma", Luhrmann says that "It's not a musical, and it's not Oklahoma! [Its] classic romance that uses the sweeping landscape of Australia and runs from the mid-1930s to the bombing of Darwin during World War II.

U.N. Update: I meant to ask if anyone can read the writing on the billboard. Is this an ad for "The Interpreter"? I am trying to wrap my head around the idea of watching a New York-based thriller at a cinema Baghdad.
