Gallimaufry

Robert S. Leiken writing in Foreign Affairs addresses the lack of seriousness with which Europe is treating its jihadi problem and I expect Europe's Angry Muslims will be widely read across the right-hand side of the blogosphere. I link to this not terribly gripping assessment largely for its use of the term "gallimaufry". If I were to start issuing Flea challenges, the first would be a fleatwa to use "gallimaufry" in conversation with a straight face and as if to assume the people with whom you are speaking are of course conversant with the word. Off you go then.

This word has been around since the sixteenth century, is still in use, but isn’t particularly common today. It’s one of those terms sometimes trotted out to give a literary feel to one’s writing, or spoken in a facetious tone for a quick laugh.
