StraitWay
"The Israelis might have nuclear bombs but we have the children bomb and these human bombs must continue until liberation."
The next well-meaning, "progressive" idiot who tells me how much they appreciate Ken Livingston is getting a lecture. There is nothing funny or clever about an apologist for fascism and hatred. Not content with welcoming Yusuf al-Qaradawi to London, Livingston now basks in the glow of thanks from Straitway, an "ex-gay" Muslim outfit whose mission is precisely comparable to the bigoted agenda of its Christian counterparts. Ex-Gay Watch reports:
Google finds several U.S. exgay web sites, including Courage, NARTH, and Richard Cohen, that offer referrals and favorable reviews for StraightWay.
In the wake of the acquital of two men charged with the largest pre-9/11 act of terrorism in history on Air India Flight 182, Canadian media has treated us to the unedifying spectacle of 1980s Sikh fundamentalists chanting for blood. It was an all too familiar scene. Guys in uniform garb waving weapons about the place, spittle flying with ritualized chanting and - critical point - not a woman in sight. I am increasingly of the opinion that there is only one purpose of religious or ideological fundamentalism. The real agenda has nothing to do with scripture or cosmology but is to offer a fig-leaf of hope to guys who have realized that failing the coersion of women in the context of some totalitarian ideological framework that not one of them would ever get laid. This anti-gay StraitWay con is only the latest evidence that the particular brand of fundamentalism is irrelevant to an underlying pathology of fascism and sexual repression this personality-type would inflict on the rest of us.
