Generation Kill
I just saw Evan Wright interviewed on Dennis Miller. This guy rode out with the Marines wearing a bullet proof vest he bought off eBay. Amazing.

I spent a lot of time with Evan during that operation like the rest of the 23 of us. To be completely honest Evan is an awesome guy who tried to capture a glimpse of life in the fast lane with First Recon Bn. He told his story, our story, and the way things happened during that incredible adventure, I think better than anyone else could have.

I just got done reading the book and i loved it. It reminds me that nothing in america is hard and you can do and be anything you want. There has been days were i felt bad and didn't want to do anything. then i think of those soldiers and tell myself to GET SOME.

I was a member of 1st recon battalion from nov 2001, until november 2003, It was the best group of men I ever served with and my time spent in combat with them was some of the best and worst times of my life, I have read all the rolling stones articles that Evan released after the war, and He was a great guy, during and after the war when he was attached to us, he was one of us, except for when he got his first tastes of combat and reacted like anyone else would have, looking scared s@#$less, but he always meant well and I believe he has done a great thing by showing america what it's really like to be so far ahead of all the supporting units, with only one more meal that has to last you two days, and making each shot count because you don't know when you can get more ammunition.
My hats off to Evan who was a dirty bast@#$ like ther rest of us in That dirty country

Read the book. My brother was with 1st Recon as well. He is depicted, by nickname, as one of the unnamed characters and a great deal of the information provided about him in the book is false. Knowing this, one suspects the other parts of the book where there are characters referred to by other than their real names.

What prestigious unit did Captain America get sent to? Who was this reservist that was in charge of the 4th Recon Bn that led his men on that crazy escapade through Iraq? Morons!
To the men of the 1st Recon Bn, I hope one day you get the complete leadership that you deserve from the zipperheads/zeros. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what the Marines, specifically Recon Marines put up with. Oh yea, Sutherby, I last saw him in Jump School in 1987. I was roster number 452 and he was 451. I am proud to have known him and hope he is doing well. Thanks to the author and the brave men of 1st Recon. Swift.Silent. Deadly. "KILL"

I have no idea how i got here but any way I saw the book at a bookstore and read it. Customers were looking at me very strange because I was laughing so hard. Personally, I thought the book was hilarious and 95% accurate, in my opinion. This book is as realistic as one can get to the death, chaos, and stupidity. However, there were a few retards from H&S company left out that many from the B.N. were hoping to see made fun of in the book, posers like 1st Sausage sheriff from the air wing and the motor T staff sausage Torkleson (the one that pulled fuel around for the whole war). Some friends and I were talking the other day, and they commented on how much funnier the book would have beeen if it mentioned all of the screwups guys like this have done. Retards like these that are in the corps need to be embarrased; however, the book was fun and I would rather go over to Iraq the next time while I am not on a government contract. Another man that should have been mentioned alot more is Sgt Erik Kocher, a true hard ass that did not receive enough credit for the insane, courageous things that I witnessed him do. I know they do not make very many like him any more. I recommend everyone that reads this book to do a tour of duty there and enjoy it.

Book is overdramatic about Iraq and the 1st Recon Hero wannabes. A do-gooder who served as a Recon Staff NCO because the job had to be done, nothing more nothing less.
