Insurgents
Not "rebels" and not "the resistance" but "insurgents". I noticed the name-change on CBC Newsworld this morning and now I see Reuters is using the term. I had thought some directive must have come down from the Martin PMO when I thought it was just the CBC but now I wonder if something funny has happened somewhere.

CNN has been using the "I" word for awhile now:

The difference in connotation between "rebel" and "insurgent" escapes me, though. Is an insurgent's cause less reasonable?
Oh and hi, I just found your blog a few days ago!

Every news source that I listen to regularly in the USA has been using the "I" word.
You'll note, however, whenever they report that the insurgents have killed or wounded a US soldier, they generally neglect to mention just how many insurgents are wacked in return.
At some point, their numbers will dwindle significantly...or they will give up.
