One for every state in the Union

This list was meant to have inspirational entries like Apollo, First Amendment or Little Round Top. It is instead a list of the pop culture I love so much. Without further ado, the Flea presents:

Fifty things I love about the United States.

Batman, Sandra Bernhard, Big Macs, The Breakfast Club, Poppy Z. Brite, Bruce Campbell, Buffy, Chunky Monkey, Patsy Cline, Coca Cola, the Chrysler Building, The Cramps, Cthulhu, The Daily Show, The Devil's Dictionary, Ani di Franco, Disney World, DKNY, Dollywood, Dr. Pepper, Dune, Fantasy Island, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Fontainebleu Hotel, FOXNews, The Great Gatsby, Edward Gorey, Harley-Davidson, Hawaii 5-0, Billy Holliday, Los Angeles 2019, Jedi, Madonna, Maker's Mark, Marvel Comics, Moons Over My Hammy, Jack Nicholson, North by Northwest, Oreo, Rhapsody in Blue, Anne Rice, Jack Ryan, rock and/or roll, South Park, SR-71 Blackbird, Gwen Stefani, USS Enterprise, W, WalMart, Will & Grace, William Burroughs

Ok, so I have a couple extra states at the count of fifty-two. But I have had enough people over the years tell me there are fifty-two states and, besides, I would not delete a single thing about the U.S. of A.

Happy birthday, America.

Kraft intends to make its foods, you know, healthier. (I think it's Christies up here, I still call it Nabisco's. Red triange in upper left corner. Right.)

The point is the idiots are threatening to tamper with the Oreo!

What good are the Patriot Acts if this kind of subversion can threaten a basic American instituion? Secy. Ashcroft, you are asking for trouble for this dereliction of duty in defending this American culinary landmark.

As a loyal American, I think I can be trusted with Oreos as well as fire arms.

Even knowing that I am allowing myself to become overly agitated about this issue doesn't keep me from being, erm, overly agitated.

Thank you, at least, for adding Oreo to your list.

On behalf of Hawaii Five-O fans across the US, thanks.

Heck, there's a ton of faboo stuff on that list. Cool.

Brilliant!

Looks like posting html is much simpler in your new home. If not, then my admiration for this list trebles.

what, no "American Graffiti" or "Jaws"?? or "Psycho" or Pepsi or Nantucket Nectar or Ben & Jerry's?? or Mustang or Mr. Boston or Sam Adams?? or... okay I'll stop

Ahh... Tuning Spork! I have read your IMAO comments for some time.

In order: I did not enjoy American Graffiti, Jaws may have been an oversight and Psycho definitely was. I prefer Coke to Pepsi, do not know what Nantucket Nectar is (but will Google it) and I believe you will find Ben & Jerry's is already on the list in the form of Chunky Monkey ice cream (my personal favourite). There, now you have tired me out before I got to Mustang.

They sell Nantucket Nectar at that 24-hour store across the street from Trinity St Paul United Church. It's quite good, but not Earth-shattering. Now, how could you miss Snapple?

Posted by: angua at July 6, 2003 01:27 AM

Mmm. Nectar. Must purchase some tonight.

Snapple is a longer story with tricky associations. I hesitate to speak of it in a comment.
